According to the state secretary of Agriculture, Christino Golden, the center is a unique initiative in the area of research. The project is part of the Rural River Program, developed by the Secretariat in partnership with the World Bank (IBRD), which aims to establish a harmonious coexistence between agriculture and the environment.
"For us to do this effectively, we needed research to suggest best practices to be actually able to transform agriculture into something that can stand over time," said Golden. The Ceprus will bring together all the technology and knowledge focused on sustainable rural development, which will be open to the community.
Will be displayed in the center for innovative practices in terms of rural property, with several demonstration units of agricultural production with sustainability. Farmers learn from researchers at the Agricultural Research Corporation of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Pesagro) to replant the areas around springs with Atlantic species, to develop organic agriculture and building underground dams. Farmers also know how to get the cattle areas of the slopes.
According to Secretary of Agriculture, Ceprus reinforces the forefront of Rio de Janeiro in sustainable agriculture. "The river now has the best cover of all the Atlantic states. We have about 20% of the state of the Atlantic."
The government's intention is to build research centers in various municipalities. Are planned to open within the policy of restructuring the Pesagro, a unit specializing in agro-Campos, and another focused on the production of vegetables and temperate fruits in Nova Friburgo.
