In the first fortnight of June, some orange juice processors of São Paulo state started to crush early fruits from the 2009/10 season. Even so, offers to the fresh fruit market remained high, especially for early varieties. The domestic demand, however, was low due to rainy and cold weather. In Brazil, rainfalls in the São Paulo state were favorable to the orchards.
In June 15, hamlin for consumption in natura was negotiated at 4.95 reais or 2.51 dollars per box of 40.8 kilos, on average, on tree, dropping 10 percent in relation to May 29. Pera orange averaged 7.60 reais or 3.86 dollars per box of 40.8 kilos, on tree, downing 10.6 percent comparing to May 29. Regarding industrial prices, pera orange in the spot market averaged 3.53 reais or 1.79 dollar per box of 40.8 kilos, a decrease of 11.8 percent in the same period.
